My second cake - June 2011

Luau themed 30th birthday - Cake #2
Here it is. The 2nd cake I ever made. The reason I made the practice Easter cake. It was a lot of trial and error, but I'm pleased with how it turned out! We even had a hole in the top of the volcano that we put dry ice in so it looked like the volcano was smoking! And we had sparkler candles on the top! It was pretty cool. I made a shrinky dink (remember those?) of the birthday boy on a surf board, surfing the waves on the cake. This was a really fun cake to do, and I was happy I was able to do this! It really got me excited about cake decorating.

My first cake - Easter 2011

Ok, so let's start from the beginning. This is the very first stacked cake I have ever made. Our friend's 30th birthday was coming up, and to help stay within a budget for his party, I volunteered to make his cake. After quitting my job in March, I had a lot of time during the day to catch up on all kinds of cake shows on TLC & Food Network...I thought 'hey, I could do that!' I've always been into art, and thought this would be a cool new medium for my creativity. (I was especially inspired by Melinda Gregory, of Just Desserts in the Outer Banks, who made our FABULOUS wedding cake. More about that another day.)
I wanted to do a practice cake before I had to make our friend's birthday cake in June, so I decided to make a cake for Easter. This is what I came up with! I was very excited with how my very first cake turned out. Little did I know that this could very well be my calling...

New blog!

I decided to get a blog page for my cake business! I still have my page on Facebook, but now everyone will be able to view my creations, even if they don't have a Facebook account.
Please bear with me while I navigate through this blog world, and try to figure out how to use it! I will get all of my pictures up very soon. Thanks for stopping by!
