January 2012

Our best friends got married in January 2012. They had the most beautiful day for a wedding. Their wedding was in a church, and the reception was at the Vanlandingham Estate. It meant a lot to me that they chose me to make their wedding cake. This was the first big wedding cake I did, and I am very proud of it!
The cake stand provided by the venue was so big that it made the cake look tinier than it really was, and the stand was also a little lopsided, so the cake appears to be leaning - but I promise it wasn't!
The cake was vanilla with whipped white chocolate ganache & strawberry filling, with vanilla buttercream icing. Red satin ribbon & fresh red roses completed this fabulous cake.

Baby Gender Reveal Cupcakes

When my husband and I found out the gender of our baby, we invited all of our friends and family over to reveal the news! The idea was to bake cupcakes, and fill them with either blue or pink icing to reveal if we were having a boy or a girl. Everyone was guessing what it would be. Nobody knew until they bit into the cupcake and saw...PINK! It was fun :)

Summer 2011

 4th of July

Kailey's 1st Birthday

Cyndy's 60th Birthday

Summer 2011 was all about trying new things. Trial and error was the name of the game. I made a 4th of July cake, just for fun, because I found red and blue star shaped lollipops I thought would look awesome on the top of a cake. Then I experimented with different techniques on a first birthday cake, which I made to match the party decorations. Cyndy's birthday cake was especially fun because the request was 'tacky and fun.' So, shimmery leopard print, hot pink shag, and tear drop beads dangling above the cake is how I interpreted that. ;)

My second cake - June 2011

Luau themed 30th birthday - Cake #2
Here it is. The 2nd cake I ever made. The reason I made the practice Easter cake. It was a lot of trial and error, but I'm pleased with how it turned out! We even had a hole in the top of the volcano that we put dry ice in so it looked like the volcano was smoking! And we had sparkler candles on the top! It was pretty cool. I made a shrinky dink (remember those?) of the birthday boy on a surf board, surfing the waves on the cake. This was a really fun cake to do, and I was happy I was able to do this! It really got me excited about cake decorating.
